TITLE: Spirit Admin - How to program Automatic Line Selection
Topics include:
Description
Automatic Line Selection is available on all Spirit Systems and is part of the telephone customization
programming.
Automatic Line Selection assigns which line(s) you will have access to without having to press a line button, or programs the phone so you must press a line button to call
out.

Considerations
- Lines programmed without Full Permission will show, as Not Eligible for Automatic Line Selection and selecting such a line will be
ignored.
- Customizing all lines as Not Eligible will mean that the user must select a specific line every time a call is
made.
- S12 and S24 only: Most Spirit 1224 and 2448 systems are set to select line 2 as the first choice for outgoing calls, ignoring the Auto Line Selection programming for line 1. This cannot be changed (see note below for exception). If you must pick up line 1 first, assign all other lines as Not
Eligible.
Note: The Spirit Auto Line Selection is different than Partner. It will only pick up lines that are assigned as eligible in ascending numeric
order. For example: You cannot have the phone skip around from line 5 to 3 to
4.

Exception to 1224/2448 Auto Line
Selections
The earliest release of the Spirit 1224/2448 systems (R6.1) did not have line 2 assigned as the first line to be picked up. They selected any lines that were assigned as eligible. R6.3 of the Spirit 1224/2448 followed the other Spirit systems, and selected Line 2, even if Line 1 is programmed as
eligible.
There are two ways to determine which release of the Spirit system you
have:
- Conduct a Controller Self Test:
- At extension 10, press Intercom, Speaker, *92448.
- Dial 9#*#.
- View the SPKR light.
Off=R6.1
On=R6.3.
- Power down the Control Unit and remove the processor board.
On the board there will be a sticker labeled either: 'Vers. 6.1' or 'Vers. 6.3'.
Version 6.1 will allow line 1 to be picked up, version 6.3 will only allow line 2 and higher to be picked up.
